Dec. 12: LIHI opens building named after Jim McDermott
The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) opened a 75-unit building called McDermott Place. The building is located in Seattle’s Lake City neighborhood and is dedicated to Congressman Jim McDermott. It will provide permanent supportive housing for 75 homeless men and women, with half of the units reserved for homeless veterans.
U.S. courthouse rededication ceremony honors Japanese American WWII vet
Tosh Tokunaga jumped out of airplanes for the United States during World War II as part of an Airborne Division that fought in Europe. On June 21, he was present at the rededication ceremony of the United States Courthouse in downtown Seattle to pay tribute to William Kenzo Nakamura, a Japanese American WWII veteran that gave his life for the United States.
Injustice against Filipino workers is revisited
On June 23, Rep. Jim McDermott readdressed the Justice for Wards Cove Workers Act, HR 3038, to correct the violation of civil rights for Filipino workers at a Seattle fish processing plant.
