The parade taught us that, despite the overwhelming number of buildings for senior housing, there are many young immigrant families living in the area.
Kids lined the sidewalks. I have seen many kids growing up in the area. I have even hired a few of them.
The other funny misconception was when candidate Joe McDermott, who is running for King County Council, strolled down the parade. One person asked, “Is this Jim McDermott’s brother?”
Jim is running for re-election for his congressional seat and was in the parade a little earlier. Joe and Jim have the same last name, but that doesn’t mean they are related. ♦
The parade was great! Speaking of candidates for office, I saw Diana Toledo down there, yellow shirts and big blue “Vote for Diana Toledo” signs.
She was very friendly, meeting people and posing for photo’s with some of the parade participants and their families.
We are very lucky to have someone with Diana’s experience, character, and integrity representing the International District and the Filipino Community in this election!
