American Hotel Building, LLC has acquired the historic American Hotel Building in the International District and plans to provide workforce housing, student housing, and international hostelling once the current tenant and former owner, Union Gospel Mission, vacates the property at the end of June 2009.

Uwajimaya celebrated 80 years
Uwajimaya has celebrated 80 years with stores in Bellevue, Beaverton, and its 66,000 square foot flagship in the International District of Seattle. To commemorate the occasion, Seattle City Councilmember Bruce Harrell presented Tomio Moriguchi with a proclamation during the Oct. 20 meeting of the full council at City Hall. It was proclaimed that Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 was Uwajimaya Day in Seattle!

Gang vandalism in the ID
Even the Fu lions guarding the gallery’s front doors were not fierce enough to deter vandals from covering them with what James Russell described as a “filmy” substance.
