“Sun” documentary about Tibet has many bright spots

Given the 50 years of tension between the Chinese government and Tibetans, China can’t be expected to support the documentary film, “The Sun Behind the Clouds: Tibet’s Struggle for Freedom.” According to an article in Salon magazine by Andrew O’Hehir, Chinese film officials responded to the film’s inclusion in the Palm Springs International Film Festival by yanking two high-profile Chinese films from the festival’s lineup.

Diversity Makes a Difference – Part 1

The Diversity Makes a Difference scholarship program celebrates young people who are committed to reaching out across cultural lines. Students are nominated by their school as being champions of diversity.

Of those students, a judging panel will choose and five winners who will receive $1,000 scholarships and 10 finalists who will get $200.

Bumbershoot performers dance like drumming

Morning rainfalls and cold weather couldn’t keep people away from the 39th annual Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival at Seattle Center this past Labor Day weekend, which was held on Sept. 5 through Sept. 7. The festival drew thousands of people over the course of three days, all whom poured onto the grounds for local and national music, arts, and comedy acts.

Thousands of blossoms in Seattle

On April 17–19, the 34th Seattle Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival was held at the Seattle Center. Enjoyed by more than half a million people, the festival is the largest and oldest of its kind in the Northwest. At the festival, there were activities for children, lectures, art performances, martial arts, and more.
