Nov. 12: The four amigos — Gossett, Maestas, Santos, and Whitebear — honored

The YMCA of Greater Seattle recognized four individuals with the YMCA A.K. Guy Award. Larry Gossett, Roberto Maestas, Bob Santos, and the late Bernie Whitebear were honored at the 26th Anniversary YMCA A.K. Guy Award Luncheon at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel.

Sept. 19: MEDRIX throws 2009 benefit dinner and auction

Medical, Education, and Development of Resources through International Exchange (MEDRIX) held its annual benefit dinner and auction at Overlake Golf and Country Club. The event raised $66,068 to help MEDRIX continue its mission of providing medical resources, international health education, child heart surgeries, and safe drinking water in Southeast Asia.

Nov. 15: Champ Ashley Cheuk begins rhythmic gymnastics competition

Ashley Cheuk, 10, is the 2009 Junior Olympic National Champion in Rhythmic Gymnastics. She has started competing for the 2010 season. Cheuk is a fifth grader at Bellevue Children’s Academy.

Oct. 16: Northwest Immigrant Rights Project receives national recognition

The Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) received the 2009 Daniel Levy Award from the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild. This national award came on the heels of a separate recognition of the NWIRP by the City of Seattle and King County for the organization’s work on behalf of immigrant survivors of domestic violence. The NWIRP just celebrated 25 years of service to the immigrant community in Washington state.

Nov. 1: Greg Castilla’s book available at the University Bookstore

Greg Castilla, a long-time resident of Seattle, wrote a new book, “As I See It.” It is a collection of essays that convey Castilla’s stance on politics, relationships, family, commitment, challenges, and disappointments. The selections in the book reveal Castilla’s writings during the last 30 years.

Oct. 12: Quynh Tran becomes an aeronautical engineer

While plowing her way through an intense aeronautics and astronautics engineering program at the University of Washington (UW), Quynh Tran took on a challenging internship during her last year in school for Bothell-based, minority-owned PCSI Design, a product design and engineering services company.

Oct. 19: NAPCA names Christine Takada as new CEO

Christine Takada is now the president and CEO of the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA). Takada has been serving as interim president and CEO since April.

Sept. 19: InterIm celebrates 40 years with annual dinner

InterIm Community Development Association was joined by more than 330 friends and supporters to celebrate its 40th anniversary. InterIm works to promote revitalization of the Chinatown/International District, building and advocating for more affordable housing throughout the region, leading neighborhood planning efforts, maintaining affordable parking and green urban spaces, and ensuring that the Chinatown/International District remains a vibrant place to call home.
