Colleen Hanabusa, a Democratic member of the Hawaii State Senate, is running for U.S. Congress. There was a fundraiser in Seattle at the Madison 100 Hotel in her honor. Approximately 50 people attended, and $12,000–$15,000 was raised.
Hanabusa is the first Asian American woman in the United States to preside over a state legislative chamber.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Sociology and her Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Hawaii. She earned her Juris Doctor from the William S. Richardson School of Law. She is a fourth-generation Japanese American. ♦
