How do we know the vaccines are safe?

Researchers collected safety and efficacy data as part of the Phase III clinical trials in the U.S. and other countries. A combined total of over 115,000 volunteers participated in the clinical trials for the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson – Janssen COVID-19 vaccines.

Herd or population immunity is a term used to describe when enough people have protection from a virus or bacteria—either from previous infection or vaccination—that it is unlikely the disease can spread. As a result, everyone within the community is protected even if some people don’t have any protection themselves.

The COVID-19 vaccine is available to people 12 years and older.
