Easy parking in the ID? Not a chance
It started in 1917. Henry Louie and his family have been in business in the International District (ID) for four generations. They have gone through two world wars and the Great Depression. Even after a few relocations, nothing has separated them from King Street in Seattle. Nonetheless, something is making them consider again.
Man shot to death in Seattle, son to be arrested
A 55-year-old Vietnamese-Chinese man, Thomas Thong, was shot to death last Sunday, Aug. 23, at his home in Beacon Hill. Police say Thong’s 29-year-old son, Tai Duc Thong, told authorities that he did the shooting while he was high on drugs. The son is being held at the King County Jail in lieu of $1 million.
July 27: Mayor Greg Nickels visits Little Saigon
Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels visited Little Saigon, the Vietnamese American business district in Seattle’s International District. This tour was organized by Washington Vietnamese American Chamber of Commerce (WAVA). He visited Little Saigon’s business owners and expressed his desire to see more city investment in Little Saigon, enlarging buses’ free bus zones, and improving the physical appearance of the streets.

The 13.9-mile Central Link light rail that runs from Westlake Station to Tukwila International Boulevard Station opened for service last week on July 18, giving out free rides during its inauguration. Sound Transit is planning an extension of the service all the way to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which will open in December.

For $35 per night, international travelers and students will be able to sleep in one of 320 beds at the American Hotel.
“There will be some opportunity for extended stay lodging,” said Eagle Rock Ventures co-owner Scott Shapiro. “You have all the amenities here and the transit hub with light rail coming in two weeks before we open. It’s pretty perfect for travelers.”
