Uwajimaya’s new store in Renton Village Shopping Center just opened. As a journalist, I like to check out new places. How’s this store different from the one in the International District?
Their sales items were even better than the ID store. A big selection on Filipino and other Southeast Asian grocery items shows the changing demographics in Renton. Its first-rate seafood department seems to be even bigger than the ID store.
Most importantly, it’s clean and does not smell fishy like some smaller Asian markets. I credit Don Sakai, store director, for running it well. Keep it up, Don.
The store has a lot of potential especially now that I-405 will be expanded.
Renton’s Uwajimaya has joined the other Asian grocery stores including 99 Ranch and Viet Wah to share the growth of the city. Omar Lee, owner of the Great Wall Mall, which houses 99 Ranch, said Renton/Kent will be the Mecca for shopping in the future.
Well done, Moriguchi family.
