One-hundred-and-thirty friends of Elsie Leilani Taniguchi gathered at the Mercer Island Community Center on Oct. 2 for her 80th birthday celebration. Taniguchi was the former longtime president of the Puyallup Valley Japanese American Citizens League (JACL). Friends say she loves to play the ukulele, dance the hula, and Obon Odori.
