At a time when distrust of the democratic process has reached new heights within the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, along with the rest of the population, two organizations within the community have adopted somewhat different approaches to voter education and registration.
Primary election results
The primary elections were held on Aug. 2 across Washington state, including races for U.S. Senator, and Congressional District 1, 7, 8, and 9.
AAPI candidates on the primary election ballot
King County Elections (KCE) has mailed out over 1.4 million ballots to registered voters across King County for the 2022 Primary election on Aug. 2. KCE is projecting 45% turnout for this election. In 2020, Primary turnout in King County reached 56%. In 2018, voters turned out at 43%.
Leesa Manion running for King County Prosecutor
“I have been in the King County prosecuting attorney’s office for 27 years. I have dedicated my entire career to public service and public safety,” said Leesa Manion, who in January announced her intention to run for King County Prosecutor upon current prosecutor Dan Satterberg’s retirement. She currently serves as Satterberg’s chief of staff.
