Blog: Clark T. Randt a different man from 5 years ago

September 29, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

Clark T. Randt, US Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China was WSCRC’s keynote speaker. He was the last on the program and many guests had left by the time he spoke. For those who left, you missed an enlightened yet practical approach on U.S.-China relations for the past 30 years. I heard many US-China […]

Blog: InterIm’s 40th anniversary

September 23, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

The InterIm Community Development Association celebrated its 40th anniversary on Sept. 19 with practical strategies. The event used to include silent and live auctions, eliminated all those. Instead, this year it presented a panel of people who reflected the history and needs of the community.

Blog: Greg Nickels event cancelled

September 22, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

A big dinner honoring Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels to be held at the Seattle Westin Hotel was cancelled due to lack of interest. Nickels lost his reelection on Aug. 18 in the primary election. Poor mayor! Every day, there is a staff leaving him. By November, he might not have anybody working in the mayor’s […]

Blog: How did I spend my 9/11 day?

September 14, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

I am not one of Washington state’s powerful women, but I was generous to host them in a dim sum lunch in the New Hong Kong Restaurant, in the International District.

Blog: The MC is the glue of the program

September 14, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

Have you felt annoyed at events when speakers go on and on? How do you stop them? If your program is not strong but has a great emcee, s/he would know how to make it work.

Blog: Working in a recession

September 14, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

Risk-taking is a scary matter especially during recession. If you get stuck in a job you dislike, this might not be a good time to switch jobs. Yet, I was asked to mentor a group of young Asian American professionals last week on Sept. 10 on the subject. They were taking a leadership class sponsored by the Executive Development Institute (http://www.ediorg.org)

Blog: Donald Chan, not a typical Asian American

September 1, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

I love to talk about Asian Americans doing unconventional things that defy stereotypes. David Chan is one of them. I met David Chan more than three decades ago when he owned a Chinese restaurant in Green Lake. What David Chan has done since then amazed normal people.  David Chan is now owner of World Class […]

Blog: Greg Nickels – a champion for the Asian community

August 25, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

Mayor Greg Nickels got third place in his primary election. He has appointed many Asian Americans as his aides and department heads. He might have the best record in appointing Asian Americans compared to other Seattle mayors. He funded many Asian community projects and has cultivated strong ties in our community.

Blog: Behind the news – Asian Americans and the King County Executive race

August 25, 2009 By Northwest Asian Weekly

Bar hopping is not my kind of social venture. But I did it on election night from Twist to Spitfire to Kells Irish Pub in downtown Seattle. It’s adventurous, isn’t it? It’s part of my career even though I am not a drinker. I began this tradition when Gary Locke ran as King County Executive […]
