Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels visited Little Saigon, the Vietnamese American business district in Seattle’s International District. This tour was organized by Washington Vietnamese American Chamber of Commerce (WAVA). He visited Little Saigon’s business owners and expressed his desire to see more city investment in Little Saigon, enlarging buses’ free bus zones, and improving the physical appearance of the streets.

Anyone can e-mail in Chinese with Chinglish Mail
On Aug. 3, a new e-mail application launched which will allow users to write an e-mail message in English and then forward it with Chinese and English text side-by-side. This solves the language barrier with China and sets a new standard in e-mail communication.

On Aug. 6, Sen. Maria Cantwell announced the U.S.–China Market Engagement and Export Promotion Act. This act will help small and medium sized businesses enter China’s economy.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation donates to help dying mothers and newborn babies
On July 28, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation donated a $41 million grant to Concern Worldwide US. Concern Worldwide US is an organization that works to find solutions for the high rate of deaths of newborn babies and mothers throughout the world.
