LIHI Awarded $10,000 from ID Rotary Club

On Dec. 15, the Seattle International District Rotary Club presented Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) with a $10,000 grant to help families with children living in transitional housing. The grant will focus on the needs of homeless, immigrant and refugee families living at Columbia Court in Seattle.

LETTER: Story about LIHI’s dispute with SeaSol did not reveal all

Editor: On Nov. 3, the Northwest Asian Weekly ran an article on the dispute between George Berumen working with the Seattle Solidarity Network, and the Low Income Housing Institute and its executive director, Sharon Lee. The article, “LIHI’s Sharon Lee and SeaSol clash over $99,” did not fully represent the position of SeaSol.

Dec. 12: LIHI opens building named after Jim McDermott

The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) opened a 75-unit building called McDermott Place. The building is located in Seattle’s Lake City neighborhood and is dedicated to Congressman Jim McDermott. It will provide permanent supportive housing for 75 homeless men and women, with half of the units reserved for homeless veterans.

LIHI makes people rethink definition of low-income housing

This year, Secou Diate purchased his first home, a brand new four-bedroom townhouse that his wife, daughter, and unborn baby will enjoy. For Diate, it was the perfect time to purchase. Interest rates were low. The unit was in a brand-new development and it was in his price range.
