Presently, well over 15 million U.S.-born citizens and legal immigrants, including open border advocates, have lost their jobs. Although some immigrants are great assets to the U.S., it is simply selfish, shortsighted, and irresponsible to promote amnesty and ever increasing immigration to gain political clout.
Christopher Kang made a quick correction to his introduction about where he worked before he gave his speech to a room full of members of the Korean American Bar Association (KABA).
In his State of the Union address on Jan. 27, President Obama encouraged both houses of Congress to “continue the work of fixing our broken immigration system – to secure our borders, enforce our laws, and ensure that everyone who plays by the rules can contribute to our economy and enrich our nation.”
This proclamation comes after ACR 76, a measure that recognizes Dec. 17 as an annual day to acknowledge the contributions of immigrants to the United States, especially the state of California. The proclamation honors America’s immigrant heritage and commemorates the sacrifices and contributions of America’s Angel Island immigrants. Angel Island is in the San Francisco Bay and once housed an immigration station, now a national historic landmark.
As part of International Human Rights Week and in celebration of National Lesbian Day in the Philippines, lesbian, bisexual, queer Filipinas, and their allies gathered on Dec. 8 at the Wild Rose. The Wild Rose is a lesbian bar in Seattle.
Some are speculating that it could be one vote that ends U.S. Rep. Joseph Cao’s career. Cao was the only Republican who voted for President Obama’s health care plan, HR-3962.
Last weekend, during a trip to Asia that was designed to build U.S. influence in the area, President Obama bowed to Japan’s Emperor Akihito. This single action caused a storm of controversy. Responses have been polarized, divided down party lines. Obama’s Republican critics say it was a sign of subservience, and the president was showing weakness. The State Department, however, has stressed that “the president was simply showing respect.”
President Obama nominated Suresh Kumar as the Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director General of the United States and Foreign Commercial Service, Department of Commerce.
I was at Joe Mallahan’s election night party at the Edgewater. When I left, one of Mallahan’s good friend said he was hoping Mallahan could pull through, though he was down by 900 votes at the time.
“I’m guessing that by the end of the year that the U.S.- China relationship is going to be sailing higher and will be more positive as a relationship than at any other time in the 30 years of our formal diplomatic relationship,” Jon Huntsman said. Huntsman is the new U.S. ambassador to China. “That’s just my hunch.”
