JACL announces completion of survey

The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), the nation’s oldest and largest Asian American civil and human rights organization, recently announced the completion of a survey which was funded by a grant from the Annie E. Casey Foundation of Baltimore, Md.

May 27: JACL fellowship goes to Scott Sakakihara

The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) awarded the 2009 JACL Mike M. Masaoka Fellowship to Scott Sakakihara. He has started working in the Washington, D.C. office of Congresswoman Mazie Hirono (D–HI). Sakakihara graduated from Harvard Law School in 2008. ♦

In celebration of APA Heritage Month

Education is key: According to the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), education is pivotal to how Asian Pacific Americans (APA) are viewed and treated. The Seattle Chapter has launched a concerted effort to proactively fight for important APA issues by focusing on teaching students about the experiences of people of Asian ancestry.

Kimura awarded for civic excellence

Lillian Kimura, the first woman to be elected as the national president of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) and a long time JACL leader, received the Ina Kay Award from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Nov. 17 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

JACL disagrees with Chaffetz’s proposal for ‘prison camps’

According to the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), Jason Chaffetz, Republican nominee for U.S. Representative from the 3rd Congressional District of Utah, proposed the construction of “prison camps” surrounded by barbed wire to confine undocumented immigrants. The JACL are against this.
