Thank you for the opportunity to speak about the programs and services of the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA). As a national organization with offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., NAPCA was established in Seattle in 1979 as a result of a broad-based, collective effort of community leaders who cared deeply about issues affecting Asian/Pacific Islander seniors.
Nov. 12: Hyeok Kim named Marshall Memorial Fellow
Hyeok Kim, the executive director of the InterIm Community Development Association (ICDA), was recently named as one of the 54 Marshall Memorial Fellows for 2010 through the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF). The GMF is a nonpartisan American public policy and grant-making institution dedicated to promoting greater cooperation and understanding between the United States and Europe.
Nov. 16: Tom Ikeda among the six MAF finalists
Ikeda previously worked as the product group general manager at Microsoft. He has received awards including the Humanities Washington Award, NPower Innovation Award for innovative technology by a nonprofit (Densho), and Washington State Historical Society David Douglas Award (Densho) within the past 5 years.
December: Dr. Cindy Y. Chen opens an office in Seattle
Cindy Y. Chen, a licensed mental health counselor, opened her office in the Fremont neighborhood. With a doctorate degree in psychology, Chen strives to help her patients improve their quality of life.
December: Okazaki co-chairs advisory committee
Mark Okazaki, Neighborhood House Executive Director, is cochair of a 12-member advisory committee that will vote Dec. 14 on who will complete the final year of King County Executive Dow Constantine’s unexpired term. Constantine resigned as council member after he was elected county executive.
Nov. 18: City University holds inaugural gala
City University of Seattle held its inaugural Global Innovations Gala and Awards at the Four Seasons in Seattle. The event raised $25,000, and about 200 people were in attendance. Martha Choe, chief administrative officer of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, was the keynote speaker.
