Mayor Strickland has ‘big plans’ for Tacoma
A tight political race that drags on for weeks is nothing new for Washingtonians.
Many thought this would be the story with the Tacoma mayoral race. On Nov. 4, Marilyn Strickland led in votes over opponent Jim Merritt by a narrow margin of 50.16 percent to 49.58 percent.
Korean Americans Strickland and Ryu vie for political seats
Cindy Ryu earned the distinction of being the first female Korean American mayor in the United State two years ago when she was elected as Shoreline’s mayor.
This year, Marilyn Strickland, born in Seoul, may follow up on Ryu’s accomplishment by becoming Tacoma’s mayor.
