International Children’s Fest at Seattle Center

Asian students dominate international tests

By Kimerly Hefling AP Education Writer WASHINGTON (AP) – Teens from Asian nations dominated a global exam given to 15-year-olds, while U.S. students showed little improvement and failed to reach the top 20 in math, science, or reading, according to test results released Tuesday.

EDITORIAL: It’s time to start moving on education — U.S. ranks behind Asia in math and science

Two reports released by the Department of Education on Tuesday, Dec. 11 showed that American fourth- and eighth-grade students still lag globally in math and science. The United States ranked 11th and 7th in fourth-grade math and science, respectively, and 9th and 10th in eighth-grade math and science.
