BEIJING (AP) — China expressed regret at a decision by international gymnastics officials to recommend stripping an Olympics bronze medal won 10 years ago after the athlete was found to be only 14 at the time, saying there was insufficient evidence.

Qing Hong Wu, 29, fell into a bad crowd when he was younger, according to a story in The New York Times (NYT). The child of legal Chinese immigrants, he and two other teenagers mugged four people in 1995 and 1996. Wu pled guilty to the robberies as an adult, even though he was only 16. He didn’t realize that it would have dire immigration consequences later on.

Cuteness alert: Lunar New Year Children’s Parade Contest draws nearly 80 kids

On Feb. 13, children and their parents braved the rain to come out and participate in the inaugural Children’s Parade and Contest, organized by the Northwest Asian Weekly and sponsored by Panda Express. Of the nearly 80 participants, there were 20 finalists who received tickets from the Space Needle, Seattle Aquarium, and Woodland Park Zoo. The three winners got tickets and $50, $30, and $20, respectively, from the parade sponsors.
