Risk-taking is a scary matter especially during recession. If you get stuck in a job you dislike, this might not be a good time to switch jobs. Yet, I was asked to mentor a group of young Asian American professionals last week on Sept. 10 on the subject. On Tuesday, Sept. 8, many kids were waking up before noon for the first time in months. They were going back to school. This year, however, their first day started out a little differently. Many watched and listened to President Obama on TV as he delivered some remarks about getting an education and doing well in school.

Every summer as school approaches, a common theme rings: Make sure your child is fully immunized. One reason for the plea is that children who are not immunized may not attend school. In fact, we’ve heard the cry to immunize so often that the tendency of some is to simply ignore it.

Mayor Greg Nickels conceded defeat last Friday in his bid for a third term. The two men who will advance to the general election in November are T-Mobile Executive Joe Mallahan and Sierra Club activist Mike McGinn. All three candidates are Democrats.
