The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) sponsored the 9th annual Aki Kurose Middle School Beautification Project. Mori Kurose-Rothman, one of Aki Kurose’s grandsons, organized the clean up for the second year. Rothman is a sophomore at New York University.
Aug. 20: WongDoody is number 3
Marketing ideas agency WongDoody, founded in 1993 in Seattle by Tracy Wong (executive creative director/chairman) and Pat Doody (president), was ranked third on the Puget Sound Business Journal’s “Best Workplaces” list at an awards ceremony held at Safeco Field.

The International Community Health Services (ICHS) Foundation announced Andy Yip as its new interim executive director.
Aug. 29: TAPS dinner raises funds for good cause
The Taiwanese American Professionals Society (TAPS) hosted more than 100 people at its dinner and raised $11,274 through dinner & raffle ticket sales and donations. Donations will benefit the Social Relief Fund of Kaohsiung County and Morakot Typhoon Rescues Fund.
Aug. 22: Helping Link turns sweet 16
To celebrate 16 years of service to the Puget Sound’s Vietnamese community, Helping Link invited guests to a networking event on Lake Washington. There, guests ate Vietnamese cuisine and learned some of the Vietnamese language.
Aug. 23: Snoqualmie presents a night of music
The Snoqualmie Casino invited Hong Kong movie stars and singer Suzan Guterres and Lo Hoi Pang for two shows on Aug. 23. More than 2,000 people attended. The event was produced by Kevin Stewart Productions, which is made up of performers from all over North America.
Aug. 18: Tea Palace celebrates one year
Tea Palace Restaurant in Renton celebrated its first-year anniversary by opening a bakery and lounge. Lt. Gov. Brad Owen, Renton Mayor Denis Law, Renton city council members, state representatives, and chamber of commerce board members cut the ribbon. Approximately 400 people attended.
Aug. 5: Legacy House holds open house
Legacy House, a senior assistance living home, held their annual open house. The open house provided the surrounding community with an opportunity to learn about Legacy House’s integrated senior services. Legacy House provides 24-hour assisted living care to 67 residents and weekday adult day services to more than 100 clients.
August: Yam starts practice on the Eastside
Garrett Yam, M.D., has joined his father, John Yam, M.D., at Interlake Medical Center in the Overlake Park area of Bellevue-Redmond as a physician.
Aug. 14: Luly helps raise funds
The Teatro ZinZanni Asia show was a success. The event was a tribute to fashion designer Luly Yang, who designed special costumes for Teatro ZinZanni, and a fundraiser for Kin On and Nikkei Concerns. More than $3,000 was raised through ticket sales and donations.
