On Jan. 11, the Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi Foundation provided a grant to the Executive Development Institute (EDI). As a result, a $3,500 scholarship will be offered to candidates who attend the EDI Leadership Discovery Program. Applications are due Feb. 15, and the final selection will be made by March 1.
Asian American civil rights groups seek disclosure on ‘special interest countries’
On Dec. 14, two Asian American civil rights organizations, the Asian Law Caucus (ALC) and the Asian American Legal Defense Fund (AALDEF), asked the federal government to reveal how Customs and Border Protection agents single out individuals at the border based solely on their national origin.

Seattle-based study-abroad program shuts down
SEATTLE (AP) — A Seattle-based study-abroad program has suddenly shut down and stranded more than a dozen students in Beijing. The company’s headquarters in Seattle is closed, its phones are disconnected, and its website says the company has filed for bankruptcy.
Attention: Applications available for Youth Arts funding
The Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs is accepting funding applications for its Youth Arts program. The program supports arts training for Seattle’s middle and high school youth outside of school hours in all artistic disciplines, including visual and literary arts, theater, music, dance, and film.
EDI launches 2010 leadership program

Queer Pinays gather for human rights week
As part of International Human Rights Week and in celebration of National Lesbian Day in the Philippines, lesbian, bisexual, queer Filipinas, and their allies gathered on Dec. 8 at the Wild Rose. The Wild Rose is a lesbian bar in Seattle.
