The creative writing team behind a popular comedy won an Emmy on Sept. 18 for their work on “Master of None.”
“There are 17 million Asian Americans in this country,” said Alan Yang, clutching his Emmy next to a nodding Aziz Ansari, who was also nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy.
“And there are 17 million Italian Americans. They have The Godfather, Goodfellas, The Sopranos, we got Long Duk Dong. We have a long way to go.”
The winning episode “Parents,” is based on Yang’s and Ansari’s fathers’ real-life journeys to the United States from Taiwan and India, and the gulf between their experiences and their millennial sons.
Season one of Master of None is currently available to stream on Netflix.
