Tosh Okamoto and Tomio Moriguchi, co-founders of Nikkei Concerns, received a Founder’s Award honor at the Nisei Veterans Hall on Sept. 15. Both united the Japanese American community in the Puget Sound area. They both educated and organized the community to embrace the need for a culturally-based health and wellness organization to care for the aging. As the first president of the board, Tomio, chairman of Uwajimaya, blazed a trail for Nikkei Concerns. He was an active board member until his retirement at the beginning of this year. Both received commemorative bobble-heads and t-shirts, and a congratulatory cartoon card. Over 150 people attended. (end)
