LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Latino civil rights group has sued 24 Hour Fitness, claiming employees suffered racial and gender discrimination at its gyms around California.
The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund filed the case on July 13 in Alameda County Superior Court. It was announced in Los Angeles.
The suit, which seeks class-action status, claims that Latino, Black, Asian, and female employees hit a glass ceiling when they applied for managerial positions at some of the chain’s approximately 200 California fitness clubs.
The case seeks lost wages and unspecified punitive damages.
A call to the San Ramon-based company for comment wasn’t immediately returned. ♦
