Welcome back to another hot month of entertainment news! This month, Jon Gosselin continues to be an example of a reality star gone wrong, Judith Hill emerges at the Michael Jackson memorial, Anna Sui’s new Target line undergoes controversy, and Yao Ming has foot surgery. Also, I urge you to keep an eye on some people on the big screen.
Gosselin parties it up despite divorce
Jon Gosselin, father of eight on reality show “Jon and Kate Plus 8,” is wasting no time crying over the spilt milk that is the end of his 10-year marriage. The half Korean reality star was seen partying in St. Tropez, France with designer Christian Audigier and holding hands with a new love interest, 22-year-old Hailey Glassman. Glassman is the daughter of the surgeon who performed his ex wife’s tummy tuck after she gave birth to sextuplets.
Really, Jon?
About one week later, Gosselin was spotted on a double date with Michael Lohan, father of actor Lindsay Lohan, and another supposed love interest, Star reporter Kate Major.
“At this point … I’m single — per se,” Gosselin told People magazine. While Jon was having fun, Kate (his ex) was reportedly at home with the kids. Though to be fair, Jon was recently seen back in Pennsylvania with his family on July 28.
New star: Judith Hill
After the dust settled from the Michael Jackson memorial on July 7, an unknown singer emerged as a star. Judith Hill, a half Japanese singer, was revealed to be the mysterious lead on the touching performance of “We Are the World/Heal the World.”
Hill was originally scheduled to be a back-up dancer at Jackson’s London concerts and has previously performed with French pop star Michel Polnareff. Check back to see what this lovely voice will be embarking on next.
Rift between Anna Sui and Target?
Back in May, Target and Anna Sui announced a designer collaboration for a Gossip Girl-inspired collection of clothing. “I have always been a fan of designer partnerships with mass retailers. I think it is a great way to bring fashion to everyone,” Anna Sui said when the line was first announced. “Personally, I was thrilled and had already marked the launch date into my calendar.
Needless to say, my heart sank when rumors swirled on the New York Daily News on July 13. It stated that the line had been axed because the show was deemed too controversial. MTV reports that the Target spokespeople are claiming the article is a fabrication and the line is continuing. Rumors continue to swirl, but I’m staying positive!
YAO-zers!
Last month, I reported that Yao Ming was suffering from his foot injury and would need surgery, which may end his career. On July 21, Yao underwent surgery.
“Everything went according to plan, and we were able to achieve not only fixation of the broken bone but also realignment of the bones to improve the stress pattern on his foot,” Dr. Clanton, Rockets team physician, said in the statement.
Yao will miss the 2009–10 season but is expected to be ready for training camp in 2010. Good luck, Yao!
Summer movie watch
Two Asian stars will be gracing the big screen this August. First, look for South Korean Actor Byung-hun Lee in “G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra” on Aug. 7. Lee won the Best Actor award at the Baek Sang Art Awards in 2006 for his performance in “Dalkomhan insaeng,” a South Korean film. “G.I. Joe” marks his Hollywood debut.
On Aug. 14, Hollywood darling Vanessa Hudgens will be starring in “Bandslam.” The
half Filipino actress is best known for her work in Disney’s “High School Musical” series and her revealing photo scandal.
“Bandslam” follows a newly formed band as they prepare for the biggest event of the year, a battle of the bands.
Check back to see how Yao’s foot is faring. I hope to have good news about Anna Sui’s line and other happenings going on in Hollywood! ♦
