Local Thai chain owner to face prison time for “sham marriage” charges?

After getting arrested for allegedly paying employees money to enter “sham marriages” with her relatives overseas, the owner of Thai Ginger restaurant chain, Varee Bradford, pleaded not guilty to federal charges on Tuesday, June 23.

Energy Dept. to lend $8B to Ford, Nissan, and Tesla

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — The Energy Department said on Tuesday, June 23, that it would lend $5.9 billion to Ford Motor Co. and provide about $2.1 billion in loans to Nissan Motor Co. and Tesla Motors Inc., making the three automakers the first beneficiaries of a $25 billion fund to develop fuel-efficient vehicles.

Mrs. Bellevue competes in pageant as the only Asian American

On May 24, Christine Nguyen Lynn, who is the current Mrs. Bellevue 2009, competed for the title of Mrs. Washington 2009 at Moses Lake High School. Lynn was the only Asian American contestant in this year’s pageant.

George Uchida, 1924–2009

On May 27, George Uchida passed away from complications from a head injury. Uchida was a former scoutmaster who mentored U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke.
