Snug budgets and picky politics weren’t the only factors that ousted Renton Technical College (RTC) President Donald Bressler. Claims state that matters such as race and diversity played a central role in sending him out the door. The college’s Board of Trustees voted 3 to 1 in dismissing Bressler on Aug. 11.

Mayor Greg Nickels conceded defeat last Friday in his bid for a third term. The two men who will advance to the general election in November are T-Mobile Executive Joe Mallahan and Sierra Club activist Mike McGinn. All three candidates are Democrats.
Food for thought: Could vegetable oil-based biodiesel fuel our future?
You may spot business owner Yale Wong cruising the streets in his shiny black Mercedes Benz. However, it is what’s inside his luxury sedan that grabs the most attention. Wong fuels his car with biodiesel made from food grease and vegetable oil — yes, the same grease used to deep fry your fish ‘n’ chips, chicken tenders, and side order of fries. Some consider it to be a promising alternative to petroleum fuel and a better option than soy-based biodiesel, which has recently been criticized for not being “green” enough.
Burma VJ attempts to create a recipe for revolution
Burma is sometimes a forgotten country. Officially called Myanmar by the country’s military junta, in late 2007, more than 100,000 people took to the streets of Rangoon in protest of the ruling regime. Called the “Saffron Revolution” because of the color of the robes donned by the monks who initiated the stand, the protest was quickly suppressed with brute force.
