Olivia Chow delivers a victory speech on Oct. 27, 2026.
Olivia Chow has won a tight race to serve a second term as the mayor of Toronto, Canada. Results were officially announced on Tuesday night.
When she won her first term in 2023, the 69-year-old incumbent was the first woman and first Chinese Canadian to lead the city. This time, she ran on a platform of free school lunches, more rental housing to help combat the affordability crisis, and reduced fares for frequent transit riders, according to The Guardian. She won 54% of the vote. Her rival, former city councillor and urban planner Brad Bradford, garnered 41% of the vote.
Chow has served as a federal member of parliament, city councillor, and school board trustee. She is the former sister-in-law of Seattle community advocate and fashion designer Gei Chan.
