An Truong, the first Vietnamese American mayor of Texas’ Haltom City, has died. He was 78 years old.
The city elected Truong in 2019. He immigrated to the U.S. from Vietnam at the age of 26, where he earned a doctorate and began a career with the Fort Worth Police Department, serving for 37 years as a Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office investigator. He also served on the Haltom City Council.
Truong passed on Oct. 16. In a statement on the city’s website, Haltom City Manager Rex Phelps said that Truong was “a dedicated public servant who always put his community first.”
The city will be flying flags at half-staff in Truong’s honor.
