Ahead of the City’s December budget deadline, Seattle City Councilmember Eddie Lin’s office has released his budget priorities.
Most of Lin’s priorities revolve around public safety, particularly for those the office said suffer “historic disinvestment.” Lin represents District 2, which includes the Chinatown-International District.
“Every one of my budget priorities started from a conversation in community with neighbors impacted by gun violence, lack of affordability, and the need for community connections,” Lin said in the Oct. 29 announcement.
Lin’s 2027-2028 budget proposals include that the City require inclusion and compensation of local nonprofits when developing gun violence deterrence strategies; reports from the Mayor’s Office and relevant City departments in her gun violence prevention program; commit to job opportunities for at-risk youth; establish a fund for families impacted by gun violence; reduce gunshot sounds from SPD’s gun range, as that could retraumatize communities; and fund local organizations to help address vacant South End properties.
