A 44-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday evening after police say he attacked two people with a machete at Hing Hay Park in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District (CID).
Seattle police received multiple 911 calls around 5 p.m. reporting a man swinging a machete and attacking people in the park.
When officers arrived, a 31-year-old man flagged them down and said he had been attacked. Police said the man was bleeding from a large cut to his head.
Witnesses told officers the suspect was still in the park and pointed him out. Officers saw the man holding a machete and ordered him to put it down, police said. The man moved into nearby bushes before emerging without the weapon.
Officers then found a second victim, a 48-year-old man, in the park. He told police he had been walking when he turned around and saw the suspect slashing at him with the machete.
The suspect struck the man in the back, causing a large cut, and continued attacking him after he fell to the ground, according to police.
