The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) expressed solidarity on Thursday with the Sikh community after a Sikh truck driver was stabbed in Wyoming.
A Punjabi Sikh truck driver said he was followed into a bathroom at a rest area—one he had visited many times—and he said he was stabbed repeatedly.
In a statement, Washington, D.C.-based CAIR said: “We urge state and federal law enforcement authorities to determine the motive behind this attack and to bring appropriate charges once a perpetrator is apprehended.”
As of Wednesday night, the victim remained in the hospital, with multiple lacerations and injuries to his chest and rib.
Police have since arrested 45-year-old Andrew Kris Bzdak and charged him with attempted first-degree murder. No word on a motive.
The attack in Wyoming comes after last week’s social media post from the Department of Homeland Security showing an Indian man with the words “Get off our roads, you don’t know how to drive Mr. Singh.”
