A 76-year-old longtime U.S. resident with Stage 4 prostate cancer has been held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma for more than two months, The Seattle Times reported.

Loreto Javar, a retired hotel worker who lives in Fife with his wife and daughter, was detained June 23 while applying for U.S. citizenship. His family told the newspaper he has missed several cancer treatment appointments since then.
Federal officials say Javar failed to disclose a decades-old conviction in the Philippines when he came to the U.S. in 1995. Court documents say he served about three years in prison there after a deadly altercation.
Javar’s family says he has no criminal history in the U.S. and has renewed his green card several times without problems.
Javar was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in January and had been receiving treatment at Salish Cancer Center. His family says detention has made it harder for him to keep up with his care.
