City Light apologized after a series of planned outages last week disrupted businesses and residents in the CID, with some businesses saying they received little or no advance notice. The utility said a software error meant it did not have a complete picture of which customers would be affected, resulting in gaps in its outage notifications. Some of the outages also lasted longer than expected.
Not every business was caught off guard. Kilig Seattle posted on Instagram that it had been notified of the planned outages and adjusted its hours Sept. 15-17, closing its kitchen and bar at 9 p.m.
The Chinatown-International District Business Improvement Area said it is coordinating with the Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation and Development Authority, the Chinese Information and Service Center, Wing Luke Museum and other members of the CID Visioning Advisory Group on a community debrief.
The group plans to discuss the outages and their impact on the neighborhood, as well as communication and coordination surrounding future planned outages.
City Light said it has taken steps to address the software issue and improve its outage notification process.
