Women at the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) gathered earlier this week for a cultural celebration honoring heritage, traditions and community.
Participants prepared cultural displays, performances and other activities representing the diversity of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community. The event also brought support from local and state leaders and community volunteers.
Tacoma Deputy Mayor Joe Bushnell, Port of Tacoma Commissioner Kristin Ang, and Tacoma City Councilmember Naomi Wilson attended the celebration. Letters of support from U.S. Rep. Marilyn Strickland, Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello, Pierce County Councilmember Robyn Denson and state Sen. Deborah Krishnadasan were also shared with participants.
