Volunteers with the Seattle Chinatown Block Watch used Tuesday’s National Night Out celebration to spotlight a simple message: neighborhood safety starts with neighbors looking out for one another.

Held alongside the Chinatown International District Business Improvement Area’s annual National Night Out event, the Block Watch’s first Public Safety Awareness gathering brought together residents, community groups and local advocates to share safety resources and encourage greater neighborhood involvement. The group’s motto, “One for All, All for One,” served as the theme throughout the afternoon.

One of the event’s highlights was recognizing the neighborhood’s dedicated volunteers and longtime community members, including the district’s “ping pong elders.” The seniors have become familiar faces in the neighborhood and are often among the first to notice and report safety concerns, making them an important part of the community’s informal safety network.
