A Seattle man is facing a felony charge after prosecutors say he used a machete to smash the windows and windshield of a King County Metro bus, forcing it out of service and temporarily disrupting transit operations.
According to charging documents filed Tuesday, Daniel Damien Lee Couch is accused of damaging a Route 7 bus shortly after midnight on July 2 near Fourth Avenue South and South Jackson Street.
Investigators say the bus driver recognized Couch from an earlier incident in which he allegedly damaged the same bus. After refusing to let him board because he was carrying a machete and recalling the previous encounter, the driver told deputies Couch began striking the bus with the weapon.
Deputies arrested Couch a short distance away. Court records say he later admitted damaging the bus, and officers recovered a machete during his arrest.
Prosecutors have asked that Couch remain on $30,000 bail. He is charged with first-degree malicious mischief.
