The annual vigil will begin with a gathering at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Canton Alley, followed by a noon remembrance program. The event is hosted by the Chin family and International District Emergency Center (IDEC).
Chin was a longtime neighborhood activist and founder of IDEC. His work in public safety and emergency preparedness continues to shape the community more than a decade after his death.
Chin was fatally shot on July 23, 2015, while responding to reports of gunfire in the CID.
Although IDEC no longer conducts neighborhood patrols, the volunteer-run organization continues Chin’s mission through first aid training, emergency preparedness education and staffing first aid stations at community events.
The remembrance is free and open to the public.
