Hundreds of people across Washington state participated in events marking the 12th International Day of Yoga on Sunday, June 21, joining celebrations organized by the Consulate General of India in Seattle.

In Seattle, yoga enthusiasts gathered at Kerry Park for a morning session overlooking the city skyline. Bellevue Mayor Mo Malakoutian attended the event and highlighted India’s contributions to promoting wellness, harmony and unity through yoga.

The consulate also partnered with Yerbana Wellness to host a yoga session at Gas Works Park, where hundreds of participants practiced against the backdrop of Seattle’s skyline.

At Westlake Square in downtown Seattle, yoga practitioners held a session near the Swami Vivekananda Monument, paying tribute to the Indian spiritual leader who introduced the philosophies of Vedanta and yoga to American audiences during his visit to the United States in the late 19th century.

In Olympia, the consulate partnered with the Indian American Star Foundation to organize a yoga session near the Washington State Capitol.
International Day of Yoga is observed annually on June 21 following the adoption of a United Nations resolution in 2014. Celebrations are held worldwide to promote awareness of yoga’s physical, mental and spiritual benefits.
