A new character is stepping into the world of “Peanuts” for the first time in decades.
Mia, a young South Asian girl from London who uses a wheelchair, will make her debut in the animated feature “Snoopy Unleashed,” set to premiere on Apple TV+ in 2027. The character is revealed as Charlie Brown’s longtime pen pal, ending a mystery that dates back to the earliest years of Charles M. Schulz’s comic strip.
In the 80-minute film, Mia travels from London to meet Charlie Brown after years of correspondence. Her arrival leaves Charlie Brown struggling to live up to the idealized version of himself he has presented in his letters, setting off an adventure that tests friendships and explores themes of authenticity and self-acceptance.
Director Steve Martino said the filmmakers intentionally designed Mia as a contrast to Charlie Brown. While Charlie Brown is known for his self-doubt, Mia is confident, independent and comfortable with who she is.
Producer Bonnie Arnold said the film’s central message is that true friendship depends on accepting people as they are.
