Gov. Bob Ferguson has appointed former KOMO 4 anchor Mary Nam to the Washington State University Board of Regents, effective June 9.
Nam, a Korean American and Emmy Award-winner, retired in March after a 26-year career in local television news, including more than two decades at KOMO 4 in Seattle. A graduate of Washington State University’s Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, she said her education in Pullman helped launch a broadcasting career spanning more than two decades.
“The education and experience I received at WSU changed my life,” Nam said. “Whatever you’re drawn to, WSU can create a path toward success. Students today face both new possibilities and challenges, and I’m honored to join at a pivotal time in the changing landscape of higher education.”
Ferguson said Nam and fellow appointee Fé LopezGaetke have been advocates for Washington residents for decades and will provide steady leadership to the governing board.
LopezGaetke previously served as the first director of Seattle’s Community Police Commission, where she advocated for marginalized communities on issues of police reform.
She is a past president of the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington and OneAmerica.
