Officers were called to the 400 block of Maynard Avenue South shortly before 4 p.m. after reports of a fight involving weapons, according to police.
Investigators said the man first approached a group at the park asking about fentanyl. When the group told him they did not use drugs and asked him to leave, the encounter turned into a verbal confrontation.
Police said the suspect walked away but returned a short time later carrying weapons. Witnesses told officers he swung a knife at people in the park, forcing them to back away.

The man then allegedly targeted a 27-year-old woman, threatening her with the knife and trying to hit her with what police described as a chain attached to a metal bracket. People nearby warned the woman and attempted to hold the suspect until officers arrived.
The woman also told police the same man assaulted her several days earlier near Third Avenue South and Yesler Way. That incident remains under investigation.
The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault.
