King County Prosecutor Leesa Manion said progress has been made in reducing gun violence across the region but emphasized that continued collaboration is needed to protect young people.
Speaking at a March 4 forum hosted by the Seattle City Club, Manion said reported shots fired across King County fell 33% last year compared with 2024. Despite the decline, she said,
“We still have important work to do.”
The discussion drew nearly 50 community members and focused on strategies to prevent youth violence through partnerships between prosecutors, police, schools and community organizations.
Manion joined Seattle Police Department officials and nonprofit leaders to discuss prevention efforts. Speakers included South Precinct Capt. Heidi Tuttle, Acting Assistant Chief Rob Brown, Lt. Sean Moore and Paul Patu, founder of Urban Family, a South Seattle nonprofit that provides support services for youth and families. The conversation was moderated by Fox 13 anchor David Rose.
