The King County District Court is warning residents about a wave of fake court hearing notices showing up in text messages and emails.
Officials say the notices can look very real, even featuring what appears to be the Washington state seal. But they’re fraudulent—and scanning the QR code included on the notice could put people at risk for financial scams.
The red flags? The words in the seal contain gibberish text and real court communications do not have a QR code to pay fines or fees.
If you’re unsure about a notice, contact the court during business hours or check your case status through the court’s online portal.
