The numbers are in, and more than 220,000 people took part in protests across Washington over the weekend, with rallies stretching from big cities to small towns in what organizers called the largest mobilization yet against President Donald Trump.
About 100,000 people gathered in Seattle, but much of the turnout came from elsewhere. Events were held in more than 120 communities, including Spokane, Olympia and Vancouver. Organizers say roughly 120,000 people participated outside Seattle alone.
The demonstrations, part of nationwide “No Kings” protests, ranged from marches to park rallies and overpass sign displays, all centered on a shared message opposing authoritarianism.
Kathleen Carson of Seattle Indivisible said the focus now is on local, sustained action.
“Neighbor by neighbor, block by block, community by community, we are building the firewall against dictatorship,” Carson said.
