The University of Washington Quad is beginning to show early signs of spring as its iconic cherry trees start to bloom, drawing visitors despite unsettled weather.
The Quad’s 30 Yoshino cherry trees are in the early stages of blossoming, with light pink flowers beginning to appear across the canopy. While full hanami, or traditional flower-viewing gatherings, have yet to take place, visitors stopped by Monday to take advantage of dry conditions and catch a glimpse of the seasonal display.

According to the university’s cherry blossom tracking website, peak bloom is expected around March 20. Officials say the best viewing window typically spans about a week before and after that date.
Rain is forecast through much of the week, which could affect viewing conditions. Drier weather expected over the weekend may offer improved opportunities for visitors, though additional rain is possible afterward.
The brief blooming period of cherry blossoms is often seen as a reminder of their fleeting nature, encouraging visitors to appreciate the moment while the flowers last.
