Betty Lau, a retired teacher and longtime advocate for Seattle’s Chinatown-International District (CID), traveled to Olympia on Feb. 10 to urge lawmakers to secure 10 years of funding from existing tax sources to support Historic South Downtown (HSD)’s grantmaking and community services.
Lau joined representatives from HSD, the Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation and Development Authority, One World Now and other community organizations to advocate for continued investment benefiting the CID and Pioneer Square neighborhoods.
Supporters say the funding would allow HSD to continue providing grants and services that bolster small businesses, cultural organizations and neighborhood stability in the two historic districts.
