The Chinatown-International District Public Safety Council sent a Jan. 23, 2026, letter to Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson, Police Chief Shon Barnes and the City Council urging action over recurring gun violence at 8th Avenue South and South Lane Street. Citing multiple shootings since 2022, including a Jan. 17 incident that left one person dead, the group called for a chronic nuisance property review and stronger enforcement tied to Caravel Hookah Lounge.
